Weekly: The Ringmaster's New Mare by EduartBoudewijn Weekly: The Ringmaster's New Mare by EduartBoudewijn
Here's this week's weekly drawing. I decided to go wtih this idea based on the Hunchback 2 again (sorry to keep bringing that movie up). In the movie after she has fallen in love with Quasimodo Madellaine tells Sarousch, the antagonist, that's she's no longer interested in helping him rob the Notre Dame. In the movie Sarousch persuades her by talking about how he had taken her in when she was young. I thought it'd be interesting to play with a scenario where Sarousch wasn't just a magician but actually a magic user; pretty much like I did with Esmeralda in the Escape Plan comic. So here after Madellaine has told Sarousch that she'll no longer help him, he just uses his magic to transform her into a mare for his circus. Perhaps this way she'll learn to obey him, if she ever wants to become a human again.

This was quite a challenge to get right, but I'm very pleased how this turned out in the end. I worked a couple more experiments in with the lighting and I'm quite happy how it turned out. I also tried my best with a nice composition while keeping the perspective in check, I'd love to get your feedback on this if you've got any!

Great work on this one! Lots of good stuff going for this piece.

The pose works very well and adds the feel of a lot of weight to the transformation. The proportions are well balanced and everything really comes together. Her top half has a lot more weight than her legs, proportionately, but it is done in such a way that it actually enhances the transformation rather than detracting from the picture. Her leaning forward as she gets heavier and her legs digitigrade really work well together and make it look his she is falling. I like the tail lifting the dress, although the fabric seems heavier and stiffer than it probably should. The sleeves are a much nicer take on the fabric. I also love the hooves stretching out her cloth shoes. Its a really nice touch and works really well.

Her expression is very well done and manages to capture a human reaction with her equine features. I also like her hands at different stages of becoming hooves to show of that the transformation is in progress. It works really well.

Shading is pretty good. Not much to say other than nice job on it and the cast shadows.

The weak point, I think is Sarousch. His pose is kind of goofy and, while I can see where you were going with the perspective, it doesn't really work. His right hand is tiny and in a really bizarre and unnatural pose, while his left hand is huge compared to his arm. The overall idea of forced perspective is there, but needs a little tweaking. His cloak is also way to stiff and shows no folds at all, like an action figure. Lastly, his head is tiny. The character definitely has a long and pronounced neck, but its bigger than his actual head.

That said, the main focus of Madellaine is really quite well done in every regard I can think of, with only minor tweaks needed. Great job!

Nice work, Ed

I like Hunchback 2 even though it's poorly made-Disney Sequel but it was decent attempt at a sequel to the original movie

There are worse disney sequels I guess; it's just that the first one was just so amazing and the second one really let me down even more because of that. I can't really stand it.

True like "The Fox and The Hound 2", a movie no one wanted to see. But yeah Hunchback 2 was a real downer compared to the original one
