Description

Here's another redraw in my quest to get back on track with my weeklies. At the moment I'm quite happy I made the decision to commit fully to getting these back on track, there have been some great images coming out of these and I feel like I'm getting in a nice flow at the moment. Let's hope I'll be able to keep it going.

Now to the image, this is a redraw of my earlier attempt at drawing a mid-tf shot of the horse transformation of Chris Anderson on the FTPD show. I really loved the transformation and the scene (where Chris is also transformed into a pig and a mouse right after being turned into a horse) and at the time I really wanted to do my version of it. Unfortunately it didn't turn out so well at the time; I was a bit unfocused in the pose and overconfident in my own ability to draw a horse, which led to some weird unbalanced monstrosity. I really liked the idea behind the image, but I never really could stand the image. So I was quite pleased that in the first redraw poll this picture ended second; which shows to me that there are quite a couple of viewers out there who'd like to see me try this image again.

So here we go, usually with a redraw I try to stick to the original pose, but I just really felt that the original pose wasn't salvagable. So I decided to keep the transformed parts as they were in the original image, while trying to change the pose to something more solid. While this pose is fairly basic I feel like it works well with Chris' emotions in this image, which is slightly reserved, though surprised. I'm really happy how the feel of the image turned out, I feel like I'm improving in conveying form in my drawings, which has been a struggle for a long time. Horses have always been one my favorite TF species and for that reason I've always been hypercritical of my own drawing ability concerning them. I'm still not totally happy about the her face; I think I spend half an hour of sketching just on that, but I'm satisfied with the final look I've got going here. Certainly beats the original out of the park in my book. I feel like this is an image I can be proud of. And of course I went with the joke Johnny made in the clip just after her transformation, because I just love it.

Here's the video I'm talking about for those who haven't seen it yet: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozHucH…

Hello there!

Good Points:

- I could see a vast improvement from the original drawing. First, it was a good decision to choose a more natural pose rather the old pose. The old pose doesn't show well of how a humanoid horse would stand.

- Second, there is actual shading! The old drawing looks flat due to the lack of shading. Also, I was wondering if the show that you linked to is the inspiration (or at least one of them) that made you started making these transformation artworks?

Improvement/Suggestions:

- Personally, I think it's weird for one of the hands to be transforming into a hoof while the other one is completely human. Every part of the body is transforming at the same time. So why not this hand?

- The muzzle looks very weird with the solid white around the nose. It would look much more like horse hair if it had been softer on the edges like the rest of white on the muzzle.

Hope this helps! ^_^
